The comparison
The comparison as Page Builder Sandwich wrote it.
Elementor swaps out the WordPress editor for a canvas of its own where you drag and drop elements. Page Builder Sandwich takes another route: you build within the WordPress block editor itself, or use its own full-screen editor, and what gets stored is plain blocks. The result is lighter pages that can still be read if the plugin is removed.
- Page Builder Sandwich's strengths

- Because pages are stored as regular WordPress blocks, no single builder holds your content hostage.
- Measured on one shared test page, it added +0.5 kB and made no outside requests, whereas the free Elementor plugin added +156.4 kB plus 3 requests to servers belonging to other companies.
- You get the accessibility checker inside the free plugin.
- The Pro version turns Elementor pages into blocks, and the original page is left untouched at all times.
- Elementor's strengths

- Elementor offers a live visual drag-and-drop canvas that many WordPress users already recognise.
- Its sizeable free plugin brings a wide set of widgets for headings, images, buttons and galleries.
- Shared ground
- Each is a visual page builder for WordPress, offering a free plugin alongside paid plans.
- Each gives AI tools a route into working on a site.
- Differences
- Elementor does its building outside the block editor, while Page Builder Sandwich works within it.
- For every page, Page Builder Sandwich brings in just the styles of the blocks used there, served from your own site.
- Its MCP server hands AI agents like Claude 150 tools, and they stay within your WordPress permissions.
